December 20th, 1704 AD, Guru Gobind  Singh ji, his four sons, his wife – Mata Jeeto ji, Mata Gujari Kaur, Guru’s Mahil, along with Panj Piaras and hundreds of Sikhs left Anandpur Sahib. They left the fort of Anandpur Sahib after Pahaadi King swore on the cow, considered holy in their religion, and the Mughal swore on their holy scripture, Quran and made a promise that they wouldn’t attack the fort.  But as soon as Guru Gobind Singh ji left the fort, Mughals breached the vows and attacked Sikhs at the site of Sarsa river, which was around 25 km away from Anandpur Sahib. It is the world’s tallest brick tower and one of the finest specimens of Islamic craftsmanship as well. The Red Fort or Lal Qila.

Image
The Red Fort or Lal Qila (Hindustani: [laːlqiːlaː]) is a historic fort in Old Delhi, Delhi in India that served as the main residence of the Mughal Emperors. Emperor Shah Jahan commissioned construction of the Red Fort on 12 May 1638, when he decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi. Originally red and white, its design is credited to architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori, who also constructed the Taj Mahal. The fort represents the peak in Mughal architecture under Shah Jahan, and combines Persianate palace architecture with Indian traditions. The fort was plundered of its artwork and jewels during Nadir Shah's invasion of the Mughal Empire in 1739. Most of the fort's marble structures were subsequently demolished by the British following the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The fort's defensive walls were largely undamaged, and the fortress was subsequently used as a garrison. On 15 August 1947, the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, raised the Indian flag above the ...

Gandhi and the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre and Beyond.

Before the 1919 Jallianwalla Bagh tragedy, Gandhi had not at all visited Punjab. The mass murder, however, changed him everlastingly. It transformed him from a British Empire loyalist to arelentless opponent of British rule. The first major national campaign organised by Mahatma Gandhi was in opposition to the RowlattAct, which harshly limited civil liberties. This movement began with an all-India hartal, observed onSunday, April 6, 1919. Although he had once been an admirer of the British Empire, the political andsocial campaigner, Mahatma Gandhi, was moved to express his complete estrangement from ‘thepresent Government’ by the ‘wanton cruelty’ and ‘inhumanity’ shown by Dyer and others in thePunjab. Amritsar polarised British and Indian opinion and created a sore that still has the power tocause controversy and embarrassment over 60 years since British power in India finally came to anend. During a visit in 2005 the then British Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, expressed his shame andsor...
